Night #3

By Capt. James T. Geek (5/26/06)

NIGHT is an action-packed horror comic full of werewolves and vampires. It was created by writer Troy Hasbrouck and artist Buddy Prince.

Over the course of the first three issues, FBI agents Sabrina Voght and Andrew Whildon are on the hunt for a werewolf that they believe has been hacking its way across the country. David Skinner is the reluctant werewolf desperately trying to control his transformations. After tearing apart some punks, Skinner befriends a neighborhood gang that’s at war. Soon the rival gangs clash, the FBI closes in, and the mysterious Mr. E. enters the picture.

Hasbrouck and Prince get off to a shaky start in the first issue of  NIGHT. The artwork is a bit rough; the writing marred by silly typos. But the story is still interesting and keeps you reading. That’s good, because if you hold on for the second issue you’ll see Hasbrouck and Prince improve by leaps and bounds. The art and layouts are cleaner; some panels are downright awesome; most of the typos are gone. The third issue, which involves a showdown with the beautifully rendered Mr. E., continues the team’s development and you wonder how good the fourth issue will be.

If Hasbrouck and Prince continue improving at this rate, NIGHT #4 should be a must-read comic.
